New Graduate Registered Nurse Residency Program
The New Graduate Registered Nurse Residency Program at UMass Memorial Medical Center
“The past six months in the New Grad RN Residency Program have been a great learning experience. The nurse educators have been wonderful – they are always supportive but intervene when necessary. I have learned so much and I am so glad I was able to attend the program- it will make such a difference in my nursing career.“
- New Grad RN Resident, September 2010 Program
UMass Memorial Medical Center offers twice yearly new graduate nursing residency programs to train and develop high-quality nursing professionals. This selective program is open to exceptional nurse graduates with an undergraduate grade point average of 3.3 or higher who have passed the NCLEX exam but not yet entered the nursing workforce. The program offers applicants the choice of following either an acute care nursing track or a critical care nursing track. Candidates are asked to declare their preferred track upon application to the program.
Once selected by a search committee of nursing executives, nurse managers and human resources staff, new nursing graduates participate in educational sessions and clinical assignments designed to support the development of critical thinking, professional practice behaviors, organizational commitment and clinical judgment.
The 22-week program includes initial assignment on a clinical unit for the first three months of training, including a varying work schedule and exposure to both our University and Memorial Campuses. Midway through the program, participants have the opportunity to “match” with a specific unit for extended training.
At the conclusion of the program, while employment is not guaranteed, there is always considerable interest in the fully trained, new nurses who have completed the program.
Interested candidates: Opportunities to apply for the New Graduate Registered Nurse Residency Program are posted twice a year, typically January and July. Notice of upcoming nursing residency programs is posted on our UMass Memorial Medical Center “Careers” website. Qualified applicants may want to check the website frequently.Featured Job Categories
