Peg

A History of Nursing Excellence

You could argue that nursing is in Peg’s blood. Her father served as a medic in World War II, and her first exposure to hospital work occurred at a young age while she attended junior high school and worked as a candy striper. Since those early days she has loved taking care of patients, developing her own history of success at UMass Memorial Medical Center where she now is a nurse manager.

Peg began working at UMass Memorial on a medical/surgical floor, and after only two years, she sought out the challenge of critical care nursing. Critical Care offered her many opportunities for growth and Peg recalls receiving excellent training for her new role. After her career took her to another area hospital, Peg returned to UMass Memorial as a nursing supervisor and then nurse manager of 7 ICU. She continues to feel fortunate to work with outstanding critical care nurses and excels at mentoring her staff to treat their patients as if they were family.

Peg further demonstrated her commitment through her participation in disaster training and the privilege of being on-site at Ground Zero in New York City after 9/11 as a member of the Disaster Management Assistance Team sent from UMass Memorial. Peg is also committed to continuous learning and has recently obtained her master's degree in health care administration. She also maintains several certifications and recently became certified in nurse management and leadership.

If Peg has one message to convey it is this - all people really want and need is respect, compassion and acknowledgement. Realizing that any of us, at any time, could be in similar circumstances reinforces her commitment to excellent nursing practice.
